La edición extendida de The Lord Of The Rings: The Fellowship Of The Ring fue el título que más premios obtuvo durante la 2003 Home Entertainment DVD Technical Awards, por la VSDA (Video Software Dealers Association). Los Home Entertainment DVD Technical Awards son otorgados a los títulos que han demostrado las características más innovadoras y entretenidas mediante el uso de las más modernas tecnologías de DVD.
Los ganadores fueron anunciados esta mañana durante la ceremonia de apertura de Home Entertainment 2003 de VSDA, la convención anual de la asociación que se lleva a cabo en el Venetian Resort-Hotel-Casino de Las Vegas, Nevada.
The Lord Of The Rings: The Fellowship of The Ring recibió un total de nueve premios, incluyendo la mejor presentación en conjunto, lanzamiento cinematográfico, mejor material adicional y mejor comentario de un DVD.

Las nuevas categorías de este año fueron Mejor transferencia de fuente digital y mejor característica oculta (easter egg).
El proceso para elegir a los ganadores consistió en que un panel de reporteros evaluaran 134 participantes en las 14 categorías. El panel fue formado este año por: Marc Bernardin, Entertainment Weekly; Todd Doogen, The Digital Bits/CPU Magazine; Jeffrey Howard, The Movie Guys; Guido Henkel, DVD Review; Scott Hettrick, Video Business Magazine/DVD Exclusive/Variety/Los Angeles Times; Bill Hunt, The Digital Bits; Jeffrey Kern, Audiovideoforum.com; Geoffrey Kleinman, DVDTalk.com; Laurence Lerman, Video Business Magazine; Mike Mayo, Video Hound's DVD Guide; Dave Neil, The Movie Guys; Brett Sporich, The Hollywood Reporter; y Ralph Tribbey, DVD Release Report/Video Store Magazine.
Para poder ser considerado el DVD tenía que haber sido lanzado al mercado entre el 1º de abril de 2002 y el 31 de marzo de 2003. Todas las compañías, sin importar su tamaño fueron invitadas a elegir su mejor título para cada categoría. Mas de 20 distribuidores participaron.
