CNN reports that Pixar Animation Studios has announced it has ended talks with The Walt Disney Company over extending their five-picture deal. "After ten months of trying to strike a deal with Disney, we're moving on," Pixar CEO Steve Jobs said in a statement. "We've had a great run together - one of the most successful in Hollywood history - and it's a shame that Disney won't be participating in Pixar's future successes". Two films remain to be released by Disney - Nomember's The Incredibles and 2005's Cars. Pixar will begin negotiations with other interested studios to distribute its films released in 2006 and beyond. Finding an interested studio won't be difficult. Pixar's films have made $2.5 billion at box offices worldwide and have sold more than 150 million DVDs and videos.
A TheStreet.com analyst says that "Pixar's decision offers a further hurdle for Disney CEO Michael Eisner as he tries to steer his struggling media conglomerate into a full turnaround. The news comes as Eisner deals with uncertain economics in the TV and theme parks businesses, along with a pair of dissident shareholders seeking to portray the executive as overpaid and unresponsive to shareholder needs".
Bloomberg reports that Michael Eisner responded to Pixar's announcement with this statement: "Although we would have enjoyed continuing our successful collaboration under mutually acceptable terms, Pixar understandably has chosen to go its own way to grow as an independent company".

Yo alguna vez leí que los que andaban coqueteando a Pixar era WB, que no tiene a nadie que le haga animación en computadora (Dreamworks tiene a PDI, y Fox tiene a Blue Sky Studios) y Lucasfilm (ellos quien sabe para que, pero supongo que la principal razón es el $$$)

Dudoso que esto llegara a suceder, ya que Disney se quedó con los derechos de los personajes de las (hasta ahora) 5 películas de Pixar (así como los derechos de distribución, aunque aquí si le debe pagar a Pixar su parte a perpetuidad), si llega a salir Toy Story 3, será de la casa de Mickey Mouse ...

La verdad como dice Roy Disney, es triste, pero no es algo inesperado. Michael Eisner desde un principio (más bien desde Toy Story 2) tuvo roces con Pixar y es obvio que si las películas han tenido tanto éxito es por Pixar y no por Disney (Dinosaurio!!! otra vez). Que intenten sacar secuelas a las películas de PIXAR para que veamos en que clase porquería (tristemente) se ha convertido la casa Disney.
ni me quiero imaginar los precios que colocará Di$ney a sus dos películas que falta distribuir... espero que no se aproveche de la situación....

Un estudio que esta caduco desde hace varios años como Disney no puede aspirar a otra cosa que seguir sacando secuelas y secuela de la secuela.
Es obvio que si Disney se había mantenido en una posicion decorosa contra la competencia era por Pixar y este movimiento le va a costar caro y no me refiero al aspecto monetario.
A mi me da igual quien distribuya a Pixar, lo que me interesa son sus peliculas.

Pues que Disney hagan su secuelas que quieran..seguramente estaran chafas como las ultimas que han estado haciendo, que pasan sin pena ni gloria en cuanto a ventas... los gueyes esos han de pensar que si hacen toy story 3 o monsters 2 van a sacar su lanota...y a poco le van a invertir baro para hacerlas en computadora??? o van a sacarlas como el dvd super chafa de Buzz Lightyear de hace unos 2 años que sacaron en animacion tradicional?
Para sobrevivir, estos compas van a sacar mas juguetitos, y nuevas re-ediciones en DVD seguramente...

Michael Eisner nunca ha tenido la misma vision de Walt Disney. No me refiero a su capacidad como ejecutivo, mas bien a los valores que hicieron grande a Disney. Desde su llegada a Disney se ha dedicado a cambiar el rumbo de esta empresa, tratar de ganar mas dinero al menor costo posible. Para los que tienen las acciones de esta empresa, fue un manjar al principio, pero creo que ya empiezan a cuestionarse si es este el rumbo que deberia seguir Disney.
Ojala y lo sacaran de ahi pronto, antes de que haga mas daño :cry:

Tristemente es el manejar actual de cualquier empresa de capital privado, hacer más con menos, aunque con ello sacrifíquen creatividad y se vuelvan más y más deshumanizadas...
yo creo que tiene mucho que ver con la proxima incursion de disney en el mercado del CGI ellos solitos, pues ya no habrá mas clasicos en animacion tradicional, ahora todo lo que salga de disney será CGI y secuelas por montón; tal vez Eisner se esta vindo demasiado aborazado como decian por ahi, y no quiera compartir el pastelote que comparte ya con Pixar, pobrecillos, jijiji....(nombremos una vez mas Dinosaurio, por pura crueldad, jejeje).

Pero fuera de DIsney hay muy buenos actores de doblaje, chequen el excelente doblaje que se hizo a Shrek y Ice Age... no le pedían nada a los de Disney.
Y no se olviden del doblaje del Gigante de Hierro y Titan A.E., excelentes la verdad, asi que por ese lado no creo que haya tanto problema, al contrario.

Marvel eyes Pixar, others for films
Marvel Enterprises has met with Pixar Animation Studios and nearly every producer about translating more of its comic book characters into filmed entertainment, Marvel vice chairman Peter Cuneo said Tuesday. Cuneo, speaking at Emerald Asset Management's 11th annual Groundhog Day Investment Forum in Philadelphia, said Marvel and Pixar have something in common in terms of their track records in film. "Pixar has an incredible record," Cuneo said, referring to the company's five blockbusters in five tries in a partnership with the Walt Disney Co. that seems to be coming to an end after the two sides broke off renewal negotiations last week. MGM discloses talks with Pixar
Hollywood heavyweight Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Inc. told investors Wednesday that it would "love to be in business with" Emeryville-based Pixar Animation Studios Inc., which ended talks with long-time partner Walt Disney Co. last month.
In a conference call, MGM vice chairman and operating chief Chris McGurk said the studio would be "the best fit" compared with other studios for Pixar in a worldwide distribution deal. Other hollywood studios such as Warner Bros., Sony and Fox have made overtures towards Pixar since the company first began exploring the potential for a new distribution agreement last summer.
"We have spoken to Pixar and we do intend to speak with them again very soon," McGurk said during the call. "We would love to be in business with them."
McGurk pointed out that MGM doesn't have any competitive animated films or other competitive family franchise.
Pixar's deal with Disney runs for two more films -- "The Incredibles," slated for release later this year; and "Cars," slated for release in late 2005. The company was legally enabled to start talks with other potential partners after last spring's delivery of "Finding Nemo."
Since then, Pixar has been in talks with Disney to revise the terms of their current agreement. But the two companies were unable to agree on terms, and Pixar CEO Steve Jobs announced on Jan. 29 that talks between the companies were over.

CIUDAD DE MÉXICO, México, mar. 18, 2005.- El presidente de Pixar Animation, Ed Catmull, declaró a un periódico de París que su empresa podría reanudar las pláticas con Dinsey, ahora que Robert Iger fue nombrado el nuevo director.
En entrevista con el diario Les Echos, Catmull dice que en Pixar “siempre hemos dicho que estábamos esperando a que hubiera cambios en Disney, antes de tomar una decisión definitiva”
“Ahora los cambios llegaron y habrá un nuevo director en septiembre, así que podremos reanudar las negociaciones con ellos, pero también con otras empresas del mercado”.
El miércoles pasado, Los Angeles Times reportó que la decisión de Disney de mudarse había complicado las negociaciones entre las dos empresas.
