Warner home video anuncia el lanzamiento en DVD para el próximo 25 de octubre del 2005 de una nueva edición del clásico “El Mago de Oz” (The Wizard of Oz), ahora con una nueva restauración que hace uso del proceso “Ultra Resolution,” patentado por la Warner.

Se espera que la nueva edición incluya mas de 13 horas de materiales adicionales, entre los que destacan cinco nuevos documentales, un nuevo comentario en audio con John Fricke, historiador de Oz, el cuento original leído por Angela Lansbury y reproducciones de memorabilia original que incluyen el programa original entregado a los asistentes a las funciones de 1939 en el Grauman’s Chinese Theater.

El Mago de Oz (The Wizard of Oz) estará disponible en dos versiones, la primera de ellas de 2 discos y la segunda con 3 discos.

El tercer disco incluye un nuevo documental acerca de la película; la versión muda de El Mago de Oz filmada en 1925 protagonizada por Oliver Hardy y Larry Semon; varios cortometrajes realizados entre 1910 y 1933 relacionados a Oz y una reproducción del programa entregado en el Grauman’s Chinese Theatre, de la invitación a la premiere, de la revista de MGM del 14 de agosto de 1939 acerca del mago de Oz.

La edición de 2 discos tendrá un precio de $26.99 USD, mientras que la de 3 discos $39.92 USD.

Se espera que esta edición sea lanzada también en México, pero aún no se ha anunciado si va a ser la edición de 2 o la de 3 discos.

Esta es mia, no tengo la primera edición asi que aprovechare esta, aunque quien sabe como venga en R4.

Una para el carrito. De los 4 o 5 dvds que compraré en lo que queda del año, éste es seguro.

For the very first time, these versions of The Wizard of Oz boast a stunning new digital transfer of the original film, using Warner's "Ultra-Resolution" technology, plus a newly remastered soundtrack. As a result, viewers will experience the movies Technicolor splendor and unforgettable, award-winning songs and music like never before.

Both DVD editions offer extensive bonus content, including four revealing new documentaries; a new feature-length commentary by Emmy Award®-winning producer and Oz historian John Fricke; an Emmy®-nominated making-of documentary hosted by Angela Lansbury; a Lansbury-narrated onscreen storybook treatment of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz with its colorful original illustrations; outtakes and deleted scenes; vintage vault featurettes; and more than six hours of audio-only treasures, including original recording sessions for songs and underscoring and rare Oz radio programs.

The Wizard of Oz Three-Disc Collector's Edition includes an additional disc of special content, featuring a new documentary about Oz author L. Frank Baum and a newly restored transfer of the 1925 feature-length silent version of The Wizard of Oz starring Oliver Hardy and Larry Semon with a fresh score by Robert Israel. Disc three is also highlighted by several additional rare Oz film features and shorts, originally produced between 1910 and 1933. About the Movie: Adapted from L. Frank Baum's timeless children's tale about a Kansas girl's journey over the rainbow, The Wizard of Oz opened at Loew's Capitol Theatre in New York on August 17, 1939. The film was directed by Victor Fleming (who that same year directed Gone With the Wind), produced by Mervyn LeRoy, and scored by Herbert Stothart, with music and lyrics by Harold Arlen and E. Y. Harburg. Ray Bolger appeared as the Scarecrow; Bert Lahr as the Cowardly Lion, Jack Haley as the Tin Woodman, and Frank Morgan was seen in six different roles, including that of the "wonderful Wizard" himself. Dorothy was portrayed by a 4'11" sixteen year old girl who quickly earned her reputation as the world's greatest entertainer -- the incomparable Judy Garland.

Habiendo una edición de 3 discos con tantisimos extras creo que una edición de 2 sale sobrando ¿no? Es lo mismo con un disco menos.
Si vas a comprar una nueva edición es porque te gusta la película (y a quién no) y te vas a ir por la de 3.

Claro, el precio de la de 2 es la unica gran ventaja, pero insisto, si compras esta nueva edicion en R1 es porque te gusta mucho la película y en ese caso, no dolerá tanto pagar un poquitito más.

Bastante prometedor se ve este pack de coleccion, ojala se pueda conseguir a un precio accesible en la semana de lanzamiento. 8)
