Burbank, Calif., February 14, 2011 – Stanley Kubrick was one of the great filmmakers of our time and his profound influence on motion pictures continues to this day. His 1971 film, A Clockwork Orange, starring Malcolm McDowell, portrayed an oppressive lawless society where man was reduced to little more than a machine. This was a powerful film made by a director at the height of his artistry and its impact generated worldwide controversy.

On May 31, Warner Home Video will honor Kubrick with A Clockwork Orange 40th Anniversary Edition on Blu-ray ($34.99 SRP). The two-disc release includes two newly-produced bonus features: Turning Like Clockwork, a 25 minute documentary about the film´s "Ultra-violence" and its cultural impact, and a short documentary where Malcolm McDowell reminiscences on closely working with legendary director Stanley Kubrick. This two disc Edition will also include the feature-length documentaries: Stanley Kubrick: A Life in Pictures and O Lucky Malcolm! The 40th Anniversary Edition will be packaged in a 40-page Blu-ray Book with rare photos, production notes and more.
A Clockwork Orange introduced into popular culture the concept of "ultra-violence," as singing-, tap-dancing-, derby-topped hooligan Alex (McDowell) has a "good time" – at the tragic expense of others. His journey from amoral punk to brainwashed proper citizen and back again forms the dynamic arc of Kubrick´s future-shock vision of Anthony Burgess´ novel. 40 years later, the world is a different place but the film´s power still entices, shocks and mesmerizes today.

A Clockwork Orange 40th Anniversary Edition is also available On Demand and for Download from iTunes™, including bonus iTunes™ extra content. Additionally, Lolita, Barry Lyndon, 2001: A Space Odyssey, The Shining, Full Metal Jacket, and Eyes Wide Shut will be available On Demand and for Download.

On the same day, continuing the celebration, WHV will release the Stanley Kubrick: Limited Edition Collection on Blu-ray ($148.95 SRP) -- an unprecedented 9-film, 10-disc collection, which contains every film the director made since1960. The collection features the film and bonus content from A Clockwork Orange 40th Anniversary Edition, the Blu-ray debuts of Lolita and Barry Lyndon, as well as the feature films Spartacus, Dr. Strangelove, 2001: A Space Odyssey, The Shining, Full Metal Jacket, and Eyes Wide Shut. The Blu-ray collection will be elegantly boxed in new book-style premium packaging and will include a 40-page hard-cover book that explores the breadth of genres and themes in Kubrick´s work. The same group of films will be available on DVD in Stanley Kubrick: The Essential Collection ($74.92 SRP), which includes a 40-page soft-cover book.

All right, once again, we've got a little more interesting release news for you today...

First though, we've got a couple of Kubrick Blu-ray title updates. We've heard back from Warner Home Video about some of our questions, and here's what we've learned: The new A Clockwork Orange: 40th Anniversary Edition features the same HD master and lossless audio that were released previously on Blu-ray. Likewise, the audio on all of the other Blu-ray titles is the same as previously released. We have, however, learned that Lolita features 1.0 DTS-HD MA, while Barry Lyndon offers 5.1 DTS-HD MA. As for the possibility of Barry Lyndon and Lolita being released as BD singles in the U.S., so that fans who already own all the other Kubrick Blu-rays don't have to buy the whole box to get them, that's still unknown. However, it does look as if both films are being released as BD singles in Europe (France, Germany, Denmark) and elsewhere in May. So if the discs aren't Region-locked, you may be able to import them. (And we've heard from a LOT of readers that that's exactly what they hope to do.) Rest assured, we've let WHV know how many of you have strong feelings about this issue, so maybe they'll find a way to let you get the two new films individually yet. We'll see...

Vaya, pensé que estaría más caro, yo no pensaba comprarlo pues ya tengo 5 de los BD que se incluyen, pero si este paquete llega al blockbuster en una promo de 50%, debo admitir que será muy tentador...

Por cierto, Criterion ya confirmó el lanzamiento del BD de "The Killing" en Agosto y como extra incluirá una versión restaurada de "The Killer's Kiss", con esto ya casi se completa la filmografía de Kubrick en BD... interesante...

Si convendria con ese descuento, pero no se si deshacerme de los individuales que tengo de Kubrick porque me gustan sus portadas.

John Landis Really Wants to See You Next Wednesday

2001: A Space Odyssey is arguably one of the greatest movies ever made, even if no one has any idea what the fuck it's actually about. It has influenced directors for almost half a century, but even Kubrick could not have predicted that a throwaway line from the film that isn't even in the script would lead to one of the longest running Easter eggs in cinematic history.


... and we're fairly sure Kubrick could see into the future.

The line is simply "See you next Wednesday" and it's spoken by the father of one of the astronauts on a videophone. That's it. But that one line had such a huge impact on John Landis that he wrote a screenplay called See You Next Wednesday in honor of the movie. By all accounts it was terrible (yes, even worse than Blues Brothers 2000), and he decided never to use it.

However, even in a pile of shit you can find nuggets of perfectly good corn, so in all the movies Landis made where he pinched a line, character, theme or whatever from the SYNW script, he would give a little nod to it.



Everything from a porno to a prehistoric epic. Makes you wonder what Landis' screenplay was about.



We'd like to see her next Wednesday, if you catch our incredibly subtle drift.

Many have jumped on the SYNW bandwagon, and the phrase can be found in all kinds of stuff, from the video game classic Deus Ex to Hellboy II.

¿Edicion Nacional incompleta ? :? :x

En Sanborns.com se puede ver una edicion diferente de la Coleccion de Kubrik donde faltan las peliculas Spartacus y Dr.Stangelove ademas de que la caja es diferente .

al principio pense que podria ser un error pero la descripcion que publica Sanborns dice

ojala sea solo un error pero me suena a que no obtuvieron los derechos de estas 2 peliculas para venderlas en el paquete en México. :x
Si es asi comprare las ediciones individuales de Lolita y Barry Landon que son las que me faltan ,tambien el Digibook de Clockwork Orange y esperare a Thanksgiving o alguna oferta para comprar la coleccion gringa ya que ahorita esta en $104 dls y ya tengo casi todas las peliculas.

Acabo de ver el digibook, la neta no tiene progenitora esta muy chida la foto y los colores super bien definidos igual y se me pega uno :oops:

sobre la edicion fuera de USA pues ya se sabia que no contendria esas peliculas al no tener Warner derecho sobre ellas.... desde el anuncio se advirtio eso..... :roll: :roll: :roll:

Ya la vi en Sears la edición nacional de la colección y pues es una caja gorda con las películas que ya conocemos, trae un slipcover, a mi de plano no me gustó mucho la presentación. Como son los mismos discos ya tome la decisión de NO comprar este pack (ni el de USA), las portadas de las ediciones normales me fascinan y no estoy dispuesto a sacrificarlas.

Lo que si compre al 30% a 200 pesos fue el Digibook de A Clockwork Orange (una belleza), viene con todos subtitulado en español (incluyendo el documental A Life in Pictures).

Igual me hice de Barry Lyndon a $160, es portada nacional y el disco tiene serigrafia en español.

La de Spartacus la tenian también (por fin la sacó Universal en edición nacional) a $144 :o menos el descuento como 100 pesos :o

Ya solo me falta la de Lolita (que espero llegue a la venta de Blockbuster) y Dr. Strangelove (que nunca ha sido mucho de mis favoritas).

En Sanborn's me hice del digibook de A Clockwork Orange. Sí entró a la promoción del 40% en blu-rays, así que de $304 salió en $184, por si no lo encuentran ni en Liverpool ni en Blockbuster...

A quienes ya compraron Espartaco de Universal MX, nos pueden confirmar características. Es el mismo disco de USA o qué onda cómo viene?

Jajaja bueno el contenido si, aunque detecte que en la contraportada dice que trae varios audios y subs, y de audio si mal no recuerdo solo trae Ingles y Frances (como la gringa).
