The Exorcist (1973) Blu-Ray USA - Director: William Friedkin

Warner Home Video have announced the US DVD and Blu-ray Disc release of The Exorcist Extended Director’s Cut on 5th October 2010. Newly remastered in 1080p from the original camera negative, the Blu-ray includes both the remastered Extended Director’s Cut as well as the remastered theatrical version of the film. The 2-Disc Blu-ray edition ($34.99 SRP) will be packaged with a personal letter written by Friedkin inside a 40-page Blu-ray Digibook featuring striking photos, cast bios, revealing production notes and more. Along with extras from previous releases you also get three new documentaries.
The single-disc DVD ($19.96 SRP) includes the remastered Extended Director’s Cut only with commentary by Friedkin and trailers.
Friedkin has this to say about the new Extended DC: “After my final cut of the original The Exorcist, I took out 12 more minutes before we actually released it in theatres. Years later, Bill Blatty asked if I’d consider reviewing some of that rejected footage (which he always felt should have remained) with an eye towards putting it into a new version. Bill gave me the best piece of material I've ever received and because of that and because the film had such a major reputation over some 25 years, I agreed to revisit all these scenes. When I saw them, I came to realize that Bill was, in fact, right. With technical advances, scenes that didn’t work then could now be fixed with CGI and there were others that I thought strengthened the spiritual aspect of the film. Warner agreed and released a whole new theatrical print in 2000 which we called The Exorcist: The Version You’ve Never Seen. And I now agree with Blatty that this is the best and most complete version.”

Buenísimo que a pesar de que Friedkin decidió que la llamada "The Exorcist: The Version You’ve Never Seen" se convirtiera en el Director's Cut igualmente salga en Blu-Ray la de 1973, la que ganó los Oscars y que fuera como un hijo para Friedkin aunque ahora que ya tiene casi 30 años es normal que lo quiera echar de la casa. ;-)

Cada año Warner lanza 8 Digibooks, pero este año ya lleva 9 anunciados jejeje

Esta pelicula merece un gran transfer, ojala si sea algo bueno, y no mediocre como "Lord Of The Rings"

Esta edición incluirá las ya conocidas "The Version You've Never Seen" y la "Theatrical cut", ambas versiones en el mismo digibook. Solo que ahora a la "never seen" le están llamando "Extended Director's Cut"

Pues que buena noticia, "El exorcista" es de mis pelis favoritas de terror. Personalmente si viene en digibook o no, es lo que menos me importa. Los digibooks son bonitos pero no compro una peli por eso. Lo que más me gusta de esta edición es que va a incluir ambas versiones, a mí me gustan ambas, pero prefiero ligeramente "La versión que nunca has visto"... que creo que ya hemos visto todos

PD: Por cierto, yo soy de los que gustaron del nuevo "look" de "Contacto en Francia", que es menos colorido y mas áspero, como Friedkin deseaba que se viera originalmente la película, pero en su época por angas o por mangas no la pudo filmar así. Al menos no hizo cambios drásticos a la Lucas/Spielberg en "Star wars" o "E.T." que ya hemos comentado en otra ocasión. Quizás la mejor opción hubiera sido incluir ambas versiones (la original y la nueva) pero hubiera sido muy caro un paquete de 3 discos (1 para cada version, 1 de extras)

Yo tambien me apunto para esta compra la verdad me encanta mucho esta pelicula, una de las mejores en su genero y para la epoca, yo de niño no la podia ni ver pero ahora de adulto me fascina.

Todo parece indicar que así es, es sólo que me sacó de onda que aquí hablan de 12 minutos más y la diferencia entre la versión original y The Version You've Never Seen es de 10. Tal vez sí tiene los 12 minutos de escenas nuevas, pero quitándole 2 minutos al metraje original.

Aparte ya me fijé que la Extended la ponen como la versión del 2000, entre paréntesis, que corresponde al año de The Version You've Never Seen.
