Bewitched - Sony twitches their noses and creates Bewitched Season Sets! We Have The First Official Details.
Elizabeth Montgomery is Samantha Stephens in Bewitched, the classic 1964 sitcom about a lovely young witch who married a mortal named Darrin (Dick York for the first five seasons) over the objections of her meddling mother, Endora (Agnes Moorehead), and her snobbish father, Maurice (Maurice Evans). Darrin, upon learning (post-nuptails!) that his wife is a witch, demands that she not use her powers and try to live as a mortal. Samantha agrees, and tries hard to live up to that agreement, but hilarious circumstances again and again prove that you can't change what you are.

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has announced today that the first season of the show will be released on June 21st. On that day, consumers will be faced with chosing between two different releases of the same episodes. You see, the first two seasons were originally filmed in black-and-white, but years ago the colorization craze took over and the episodes from those two seasons were processed into color. The process wasn't perfect, as various coloring mistakes crept in (a dress meant to be green was colored pink, for example). But the colorized versions have been seen in reruns for some time, and Sony was concerned that some fans may not accept seeing the show in its orginal black-and-white.

So in June the studio is releasing a Black-and-White version and separately selling a Colorized version of The Complete First Season. Both versions are otherwise the same: 4x3 fullscreen format, 4 DVDs, 917 minutes. Price for either version is $39.95 SRP, and you will see not only all 36 episodes but also extras such as bloopers and a featurette.

Also included is a free movie ticket to see the new feature film version of Bewitched, starring Nicole Kidman, Will Ferrell, Shirley MacLaine and Michael Caine. That's currently scheduled to hit theaters June 24th, which is the Friday following the DVD release of the original show.

Stay tuned, and when Sony releases further details about the set (especially the extras), and full-size cover art (we only have received the thumbnails above), we'll be back to update you! In the meantime, you can already pre-order both the original Black-and-White version and the Colorized version from DVDPlanet.com for just $27.97 for either one!

Bewitched - Extras Unveiled, Plus Full-Size Box Art!

This past Monday we excitedly relayed Sony's announcement that the classic TV show Bewitched was coming to DVD on June 21st. Two different varieties of the set will be released: one that is in the Original Black-and-White broadcast version (which is what TVShowsOnDVD recommends), and a colorized version as well for those who just can't stand watching the first season in the shades of gray it was originally produced in.

Now Sony has revealed the exact list of extras that will be included on both sets. What follows is the studio description of the set(s), plus the bonus features in the studio's words:

Elizabeth Montgomery stars as Samantha Stephens, a pretty, typical America housewife who just happens to be a witch in this beloved comedy classic. Included in this magical DVD collection is the Emmy Award-winning series' entire first season - 36 episodes that introduces on of the funniest ensemble casts in TV history. Dick York as Samantha's mortal husband Darrin, Agnes Moorehead as his witch of a mother-in-law Endora. Alice Pearce as nosey neighbor Gladys Kravitz, George Tobias as her oblivious husband Abner and Marion Lorne as dotty Aunt Clara. Join them and a who's who of '60's pop icon guest stars - Adam West, Raquel Wlech, Peggy Lipton and Arte Johnson - in this enchanting charming, and hysterically funny look at the suburban lifestyles of the witch and famous.

Featurettes: "Magic Unveiled"
Bloopers: "Magic and Mishaps"
Full length Bewitched Theatrical Trailer

The running time is 917 minutes, and language support is now noted to be English, Spanish, and Portuguese on the soundtrack, and subtitles in Spanish, Chinese,Thai, and Portuguese. Rumors have said that this level of language support is only found on the Colorized set, because it was released that way (colorized) in Japan a while back, and that the Black-and-White set only contains English. We haven't been able to confirm that with Sony; as far as we know, both sets should have the same language support. If this changes, we'll note it in the individual DVD listings here at the site.

Here now is the full-sized cover art for both versions:

:? Pues hasta donde se lee en la noticia dice que el solo el extra en la de Color es el Doblaje, cosa que no traeria la B&W, pero no mencionan nada de los subtítulos, por lo que se podría pensar que ambas versiones traerían subtítulos no? Smile
