When should I have the crv overdrive turned off. Just got the vehicle recently and have been driving with overdrive on all the time.

The overdrive should only be turned off if you are city driving 40 mph or less, however, my salesguy said just leave it on; it will not hurt anything at all.

Never take it off. With it off, even at 30-40 MPH, the revs are much higher and fuel mileage will drop.
Do disable it if you are coasting down mountain roads, or climbing.
You can also disable it to reduce vehicle speed without using the brakes when slowing down for a traffic light.
Nearly 100% of the time, leave it on. You will get awesome acceleration from a stop and much lower RPM's when cruising which saves fuel.
Having owned manuals all my life, I miss the ability to down-shift instead of breaking and the super tight control you get with a manual--not to mention a huge boost in fuel efficiency.
