Cita:Dissatisfied with its piecemeal distribution network in the United States, Grupo Agrasanchez has partnered with Ground-Zero Entertainment to begin distributing upwards of 68 titles a year on DVD from a catalog that spans almost 70 years.
In addition, Alex Agrasanchez, president of family-owned Grupo Agrasanchez, a Mexico City-based producer and distributor of films and television programming, will join Los Angeles-based Ground-Zero as head of its Latino division.
Beginning March 29, Ground-Zero will debut the “Bellezas del Cinema Mexicano” series of $14.95 DVD titles highlighting select divas of Mexican cinema in such films as La Ausente, El Cuerpazo del Delito, Soy Chicano y Mexicano, Pueblito, and Guadalajara es Mexico.
Ground-Zero, which specializes in urban, Kung Fu, Latin and extreme sports genres, April 19 will release the five horror titles: Blue Demon vs. El Poder Satanico, El Increíble Profesor Zovek, Santo Contra Los Hombres Infernales, Triunfo de Los Campeones Justicieros and Castillo de Las Momias de Guanajuato.
“It was a six-month courting type of thing,” said Tony Perez, president of Ground-Zero Entertainment, regarding establishment of the Grupo Agrasanchez deal. “I don’t think I could find anybody better to sell the product [in the United States] than [Agrasanchez].”
Perez said Agrasanchez, who has been marketing titles to Telemundo, Univision and other Latino networks, will garner first-hand experience of the domestic home entertainment industry.
“I think U.S. retailers will embrace the fact that not only are they getting quality classic Mexican cinema but also [an] actual [Agrasanchez] family member working with the company,” Perez said. “That was a twist that helped [consummate] the deal.”
